Training includes:

  • Hands-on workshops/demonstrations and classroom instruction

Attendee Level

  • Awareness Level Training and Information (Anyone interested in learning more about topic)
  • Operations Level Training and Information for Fire Departments, Police, EMS and HazMat 
  • Technician Level for HazMat and Agency Response Personnel
  • General Awareness for Community and Local Response Agencies (OEM, CERT, LEPC, etc.)

Event Focus

Featured training module topics (each will last about 1-Hour):  Total of 6-Hours for this event.

  1. Awareness for Responding to Transportation HazMat Incidents (Classroom)
  2. Railcar Anatomy 101 (Classroom)
  3. Tank Truck Emergencies (Hands-On with Crestwood LPG/DANA Transport/AmeriGas) 
  4. LPG / Propane Emergencies (Classroom & Hands-On with AmeriGas)
  5. Chlorine Emergencies (Hands-On with A, B, and C-Kits) Kuehne Chemical
  6. 9-1-1 Train Incident – What’s Next?? (Classroom with NJ Transit)

Description

Topics will be presented in both Classroom Style and Hands-On Activities with Instructors as follows in rotating Groups through One-Hour periods of instruction:

  1. Awareness for Responding to Transportation HazMat Incidents (Mike Stephenson, NJ TRANSCAER Coordinator) - Classroom Discussion
  2. Railcar Anatomy 101 (Railroad/Private Industry Instructor - DOW Chemical) - Classroom Discussion on Tank Car Anatomy, Markings, Crossing Safety and RR Resources.
  3. Tank Truck Emergencies (Jared Sharp from Crestwood LPG and Skip from DANA)  Training Tank Trucks will be on site for students to be better prepared when responding the tank truck emergencies.
  4. LPG / Propane Emergencies (Chris Wagner from AmeriGas and Propane Bobtail Truck)  Responding to LPG/Propane emergencies in transportation or fixed facility incidents.
  5. Chlorine Emergencies (A, B, and C-Kits) with Kuehne Chemical (John D'Alterio) Students will practice hands-on application of the three Chlorine Kits during simulation exercises.
  6. 9-1-1 Train Derailment – What’s Next?? (Chris Scanlon – NJ Transit)  Students will become aware of the safety and general response issues when responding close to or on the railroad systems and equipment.

 

Important Details

Required Safety Gear:  This is a rain/shine training event, so dress accordingly!

Registration will remain open until after the event if there are less than 80 students.  Walk-ins are welcome to register on-site at the training event, however we strongly encourage pre-registration as we expect this to be well-attended.

Please advise the instructor(s) of any pre-existing medical condition(s) that may preclude you from participating in any field exercise. Stay hydrated and alert to avoid any heat stress related issues.

Be at the site by 7:30 AM for registration. Depending on registration and training needs, the training schedule may be adjusted prior to event, but we would like to start at 8:00 AM.

Please wear long pants and work shoes if you plan to participate in the hands-on training exercises.
